Hold out a Hand – and help the bereaved………….
What a year! As we end 2008 we look back on a significant year for the charity – a year in which it opened its first major commercial operation, Marenghi’s Italian Coffee Shop, expanded its services into Wellbeing, took the number of clients receiving bereavement support past the 200 mark since setting up in April 2007, joined up with a very active Friendship Group, played a part in bringing specialist bereavement support charities to Newport, and attracted financial support from a number of major organisations. Hold out a Hand also arranged or participated in a number of events during the year, making many new friends and ensuring more and more people become aware of the work of the charity. A busy year indeed!
We are proud of our new venture, which provides an ideal shop-window onto the charity’s work. The coffee shop has already established itself as a popular meeting place for the local community, a service it will extend throughout 2009 as the profile of the charity increases and more people become aware of the bereavement support available through Hold out a Hand.
We cannot let the year end without extending our heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a part in our success in 2008:
The 25 volunteers who work in the Hold out a Hand charity shop, never failing to turn up and give their services freely for this great cause Our Friendship Group, who always give us great support and provide a warm and understanding welcome to all new members The staff at Marenghi’s Italian Coffee Shop, who have captured the spirit of what Hold out a Hand is trying to achieve and never fail to spread the word Those organisations that have helped and supported us in 2008, and have made such a difference to the level of service we are able to offer: Newport City Council, SWALEC, Community Foundation in Wales, QA Plus Ltd and CORUS, among others
We would like to wish all our staff, volunteers, friends and supporters a peaceful and happy Christmas, and extend our best wishes to all for a happy new year in 2009. Merry Christmas! |
